Nevada

by Imogen Binnie

After an unexpected breakup with her girlfriend, Maria Griffiths, a disaffected trans woman working at a used bookstore in New York, spirals into an uncontrollable descent. She steals her ex-girlfriend's car, embarks on a reckless journey westward, and stumbles upon a heavy self-medication routine. Her road leads to Star City, Nevada, where she encounters James Hanson, a young individual whom Maria believes is unaware of their transgender identity. On this raw and introspective trip flavored with punk undertones, Maria navigates intense inner dialogues touching on gender, conformity, and the constraints of heteronormative society. This transformative adventure becomes a complicated mix of self-discovery, potential mentorship, and the precarious balance between being a savior or an agent of downfall.
