Choke

by Chuck Palahniuk

'Choke' follows Victor Mancini, a con artist and sex addict, who concocts a bizarre scheme to support his ailing mother's hospital bills—feigning choking incidents at restaurants to manipulate strangers into sending him money out of a sense of obligation. Beyond his scams, Victor grapples with the mundane absurdity of his job at a historical theme park and embarks on a personal quest to unravel the mystery of his lineage. As he frequents sexual addiction recovery workshops and visits his mother, stricken with Alzheimer's, Victor's life entangles with the profound and the grotesque, capturing the struggles of caring for parents, the complexities of human connection, and the absurd lengths one may go for survival.
