Severance

by Ling Ma

In the midst of an apocalyptic pandemic known as Shen Fever, Candace Chen finds herself navigating a deserted New York City. Immersed in routine to cope with her parents' death, Candace is one of the few uninfected, documenting the desolate landscape through her blog, NY Ghost. Her existence is disrupted when a band of survivors, led by the enigmatic Bob, promises salvation at a mysterious facility. Bound by a hidden truth she's reluctant to reveal, Candace must decide whether to remain with her so-called rescuers or strive for autonomy in a world unraveling at its seams. 'Severance' presents a witty fusion of satirical commentaries on work culture and the poignant human need for connection amidst chaos.
