Nine-year-old Trisha McFarland ventures off the beaten path during a hike with her family, inadvertently stepping into a harrowing battle for survival in the vast New England wilderness. Lost and alone, her only solace comes from listening to the Boston Red Sox games on her Walkman, particularly following the tough outings of her hero, relief pitcher Tom Gordon. As days pass and Trisha struggles against nature's relentless challenges, she conjures an imaginary guardian in the image of Tom Gordon.
