Certain Dark Things

by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

In the haunting streets of Mexico City, a peculiar kinship forms between Domingo, a solitary street kid making a meager living from trash, and Atl, an elegant vampire of Aztec lineage on the run. Atl's relentless pursuit by a violent narco-vampire clan forces her into a harrowing escape, initially dismissing any companionship. However, as fate entwines their paths, Atl gradually yields to Domingo's endearing tenacity. Amidst a spate of dead bodies and encroaching law enforcement, they struggle to flee the city's omnipresent threats. This tale is a grim dance with death, where vampires, gangs, and the law clash under the fragile veneer of civilization, testing the resilience of an unlikely duo's will to survive.
