Into Thin Air

by Jon Krakauer

'Into Thin Air' is Jon Krakauer's harrowing narrative of the calamitous Everest expedition he took part in. Assigned by Outside magazine and an experienced climber himself, Krakauer sought to report on the commericalization of Mount Everest, the peak that has beckoned numerous souls to its summit. This expedition in May 1996, however, took a disastrous turn when a storm struck, leading to the demise of five climbers, leaving many others grappling with guilt and trauma, including Krakauer. Through the lens of a survivor, this account delves into the obsession that drives individuals to confront such peril and the haunting costs of reaching the top of the world.
