Between Two Fires

by Christopher Buehlman

In the medieval setting of 1348, Thomas, a dishonored knight, discovers a solitary girl in the remains of a desolate village. Ravaged by the Black Death, she is an image of purity amidst chaos. With a firm belief that the deadly pestilence is just a fragment of a more profound apocalypse, she claims that fallen angels are instigating a new uprising against heaven. Guiding Thomas on a perilous journey to Avignon, she aims to fulfill a prophetic mission while promising him the restoration of his forsaken honor and the salvation of his soul. Caught in a ghastly war between celestial beings, demons, and the undead, Thomas is thrust into a battle for humanity's very essence.
