In the throes of World War II, Jewish refugee Ella Rosenthal and her sister Hanni seek sanctuary in the remote corners of southern France. Sheltered with one hundred other young refugees in Chateau de la Hille, overseen by the Swiss Red Cross, they strive for a semblance of normalcy amidst the chaos. Resourceful nurse Rosli Naf and compassionate forest-raised Anne-Marie Piguet devote themselves to the children's safety. As the Nazi occupation tightens its grip, the threat of discovery looms large. Rosli's will and Anne-Marie's intimate knowledge of mountain paths become their only hope to smuggle the oldest children out of France.
