The Forgiving Kind

by Donna Everhart

Set in the heart of 1950s North Carolina, 'The Forgiving Kind' tells the story of Martha 'Sonny' Creech, a young girl who shares a deep connection to the cotton farm she calls home with her family. Following the tragic death of her father, Sonny must confront not only the loss and the threat of financial ruin but also the unwelcome interference of a wealthy neighbor, Frank Fowler. Fowler's offer to finance the crop seems to come with hidden strings attached, preying upon the family's vulnerability. As Sonny grapples with the turmoil that follows, her unique ability to divine water and her close friendship with Daniel are put to the test. Amidst heartache and violence, Sonny's resilience shines through, leading to a reckoning that promises a bitter touch of justice in a world that has taken too much from her.
