The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break

by Steven Sherrill

Five millennia have passed since the Minotaur's legendary entrapment within the mazes of the Labyrinth, and freedom has led him to an existence far from the mythological. Known as M, the creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man dwells in the humbling confines of a trailer park in the American South, carving out an existence as a line chef at a local steakhouse. Once feared, now M's monstrous stature has been overshadowed by his all-too-human struggles, from the intricacies of social interactions to the weight of emotional baggage. Over the course of two revealing weeks, M's life unravels into turmoil, yet also, unexpectedly, blooms with the faint scent of love, offering a glimpse of redemption for a being once synonymous with dread.
