Dream Jungle

by Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn

Dream Jungle' presents a tapestry of intertwining narratives set against the vibrant and tumultuous backdrop of 1970s Philippines. At its core, two main events unfold: the suspicious unearthing of a supposedly ancient tribe hidden in the remote mountains, and a chaotic Hollywood film production replicating the Vietnam War deep in the rainforest. The plot twists with the suspicion that the 'lost tribe' is a fraudulent creation by an enigmatic millionaire. Amidst the mayhem, a cast of characters finds themselves embroiled in a web of deception, colonial exploitation, and personal battles, all magnified by the relentless fervor of the Marcos era. Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn critiques colonialism while showcasing the haunting allure and societal corruption unique to this historical moment in the Philippines.
