Bleeding Edge

by Thomas Pynchon

Set in the transitional period of 2001 New York City, 'Bleeding Edge' revolves around Maxine Tarnow, a fraud investigator not bound by rules, as she navigates the aftermath of the dotcom bust and the prelude to the 9/11 tragedy. Running her business with dubious legality, she’s a gun-toting, account-hacking, staunch single mother who becomes entangled in a convoluted web of intrigue involving a dubious tech billionaire, the Russian mob, and a quirky cast that includes bloggers, hackers, and entrepreneurs. Part tech-thriller, part social commentary, Pynchon's narrative takes us on a journey through the twilight of the Internet’s early days, with edgy humor and an exploration of freedom, entropy and the cosmic balance of the secular and karmic.
